Winter Density is an old English variety popular also throughout France, where it is known locally as Craquante D'Avignon or Craquerelle du Midi. Plants produce tight, upright heads with thick, somewhat wrinkly green leaves. Often described as a cross between a romaine and bibb type lettuce with attributes of both. A compact variety that does well in cold climates but is also slow to bolt in hot periods. It's compact nature and tolerance of wild temperature swings make Winter Density well suited for growing in tunnels and cold frames. Approximately 65 days to maturity.
