(Melothria scabra) Native to Mexico, this vigorous, vining plant produces abundant yields of 1-2", oval-shaped fruit that resemble miniature watermelons. Although not a true cucumber, fruit initially have a cucumber-like flavor, later developing a unique sour punch. A favorite for pickling. 60-70 days to harvest. 25 seeds per packet.
CULTURE: Direct sow seeds in spring after danger of frost has passed. Seeds should be sown 2-3 per hill with hills spaced at least 3' in all directions. Alternatively, seeds may be sown along a trellis with 12-24" final spacing between plants. Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 5-10 days. Harvesting regularly promotes yield.
