(Cucurbita maxima) Heirloom hubbard squash cultivated by Anna Swartz of Pennsylvania beginning in the 1950's. Best known for its extremely hard shells and excellent storage abilities. Dark green, teardrop shaped fruit average 5-8lbs. Interiors contain a very small seed cavity surrounded by thick, orange flesh that has a delicious flavor reminiscent of a sweet potato. 95 days to harvest. 25 seeds per packet.
CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds in hills with 4-5 seeds per hill and hills spaced 6ft in all directions. Germination will occur in 7-14 days. Once seeds have germinated thin to 3 seedlings per hill.
