Pisum sativum
Amish Snap is an heirloom variety of pea that produces abundant yields of tender pods with a sweet flavor and crisp texture. Reportedly grown by the Amish community in the early days prior to the widespread adoption of snap peas, Amish Snap features tall plants that grow 5-6 feet yielding excellent quantities of tender, sweet snap peas over an extended harvest window. We were not able to confirm this as ours never made it past the young stage before being picked by our youngest child and eaten in hiding (a crime we're not about to punish). If there were one drawback, we did notice it is that the vines are prone to developing powdery mildew. However, we didn't get our trellis up as quickly as we should have, and this probably would have helped with airflow. We recommend that gardeners be sure to trellis immediately and avoid overcrowding the plants. Amish Snap matures approximately 65 days after sowing. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
