(Vigna unguiculata) An old-time Southern pea originating from Tennessee, these peas were often served on the Wash Day because they would cook up quickly, thus saving the housewife valuable time. Bush-type plants produce excellent yields of small, cream-colored seeds with dark hilums. A productive and tasty variety. Listed as a threatened variety in the Place-Based Foods of Appalachia, the seeds for this variety are getting exceedingly difficult to find. 80 days to harvest. 50 seeds per packet.
CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 2" apart, 1" deep in rows 36" apart. Plants will vine if trellised. Immature seeds can be cooked fresh or pods can be left to dry on the vine.
