(Vigna unguiculata) Produces large quantities of long thin pods each containing 14-16 tan peas. Pods are initially green, but over time transition through a stunning series of mottled pinks and fuschias before finally maturing to a dark purple. Pods of varying colors are present all at once and together make quite a beautiful display. Sure to catch the attention of northern gardeners, many of whom have yet to discover cowpeas, although they perform quite well here in Iowa. Plants offer amazing yield in a small amount of space and best of all, pods are set on top of the plant which is a real relief on the gardener's back. 75-85 days. Approx. 50 seeds/pkt.
Culture: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 2" apart, 1" deep in rows 36" apart. Plants will vine if trellised. Immature seeds can be cooked fresh or pods can be left to dry on the vine.
The seeds were up within a week and continue to thrive.
We received our order fairly quickly. The seeds came up great. We will definitely buy more seeds from Thresh Seed Company again,
Almost all of the seeds came up! Strong seedlings. Look good and are gratifying in their growth. Waiting for them to climb the trellis. To be continued....
This seed started out really strong. Thresh got them delivered to me quickly, and the packages they came in looked nice and had a strong seal on it - perfect for keeping seeds for next year. Will need more time to see how they grow, but so far all have germinated and sprung up to about 4-inch plants in just a few weeks. Giving 4 stars just because I'm not sure what the harvest will be like yet.
I ordered the Crowder peas several weeks ago. My purchase arrived quickly and the seeds were in good condition.
Due to cold weather, I haven't planted them yet. I expect they will do well. Thanks so much!
