Scarlet Runner Bean
Also known as beetle bean, Scarlet Runner Bean is a centuries-old bean originally cultivated in the mountains of Central America, but grown in North America since the 1600's. Vigorous, vining plants produce profusions of scarlet red blooms that eventually give rise to large green pods. The enclosed seeds are large, flat, and lavender colored with black mottling near the hilum. Flowers, pods, and seeds are all edible. Plants grow as perennials in frost-free climates but are typically grown as annuals in the north. 65 days to flowering. Each packet contains a minimum of 25 seeds.
