Perkins Long Pod Okra

$ 3.49

(Abelmoschus esculentus) Heirloom okra dating back to the late 1800's.  Sturdy, 6-7' tall plants produce abundant yields of thin, ribbed pods that reach up to 8" in length.  Best picked when 4-5" in length, the tender pods are absolutely delicious whether fried, sautéed, roasted, or used in gumbo.  60 days to harvest.  50 seeds per packet.

CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed and soil temps have reached approx. 70 degrees, sow seeds ½” deep, 2” apart in rows 3’ apart. Once germination has occurred, thin to one plant every 12-18”. Harvest regularly to promote yield.  To determine the optimum harvest size, bend the tip of the pod.  If it snaps, the pod is still tender.  We usually try to determine the largest snap-able pod and then harvest anything that size or smaller.
