Birdhouse Gourd
25 Seeds
(Lagenaria siceraria) Heirloom gourd traditionally used to make birdhouses, bowls, and pitchers. Sprawling, 15-35' vines produce light green fruit with rounded necks and bowls that grow roughly 14" tall and 10-12" wide. 110 days to harvest. 25 seeds per packet.
CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds in hills with 4-5 seeds per hill and hills spaced 6ft in all directions. Germination will occur in 7-14 days. Once seeds have germinated, thin to 3 seedlings per hill. In short season climates, plants can be started indoors and transplanted after danger of frost has passed. Trellising plants will help keep gourds clean and disease-free.
