Solanum lycopersicum
Orenburg Giant is probably not huge by American beefsteak standards, but for a Siberia-adapted tomato, it's pretty impressive. Its round, red-skinned tomatoes average 6-8 ounces each and boast a rich, classic tomato flavor that could pass for a full-season tomato. But far and above, what has amazed us most about this variety is its productivity. Despite their size—just 24 to 30 inches tall—these plants were loaded to the brim with perfect, blemish-free tomatoes. We'd say, if you were looking for a tomato that matured quickly, could be grown in a container, and was productive enough for canning—you've found it in Orenburg Giant.

Native to western Russia and often cultivated in Siberia, this variety has deep roots in cold-climate tomato breeding. As such, it provides a useful opportunity to northern and high-altitude gardeners who likewise experience challenges with cold springs and relatively short growing seasons. But even if you enjoy long, warm summers, we think this rare tomato is well worth a spot in the garden—with it's amazing yield and excellent flavor, it more than earns its keep. Orenburg Giant matures approximately 70-75 days after transplant. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
