Lazy Wife Greasy Bean

25 Seeds

$ 3.99

Limited quantities available.  Max. 4 packets per order.

(Phaseolus vulgaris) One of the largest and most popular of the greasy beans, Lazy Wife is a white-seeded greasy bean from Madison County, North Carolina.  Vigorous, pole-type plants produce heavy yields of large pods with shiny green hulls.  Beans are tender and flavorful and are traditionally harvested after the seeds have begun to bulge out the pod.  Pods contain a prominent string that will need to be removed prior to cooking, however their flavor makes them well worth the effort.  Not to be confused with Lazy Housewife bean which, although stringless, is later and less flavorful (in our humble opinions).  70 days to harvest.  25 seeds per packet.

CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 4-6" apart, 1" deep in rows 24-36" apart.  Plants require trellising.  Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 7-10 days.  For highest yield, harvest regularly.  Avoid touching plants while leaves are wet as this can spread disease.

I grew these last year. They were a little slow to produce. The beans were petite and delicious. You can string these for shuck beans.
