(Amaranthus caudatus) One of the more unique amaranth varieties we've seen. Isolated from the beautiful Andes Mountain region of Cusco, Peru, "Kiwillo" is a local landrace that is commonly used as a vegetable and grain crop. 6-8 foot tall plants produce unique dusty-pink inflorescences with thick, truncated branches that resemble puff balls. A beautiful variety for creating unique arrangements but also useful as a food crop. Late-maturing plants require a at least 150 days to produce viable seeds. 150 days to maturity. 200 seeds per packet.
CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed surface sow seeds and cover with a very fine layer of soil. Space seeds 2-3" apart in rows 24-36" apart. Thin to one plant every 6" after germination has occurred (5-7 days).
