Solanum lycopersicum
The Big Elmer tomato is a one-of-a-kind heirloom that produces massive, vibrant orange fruits often weighing two pounds or more. Boasting almost fluorescent orange skins, the color of these tomatoes was unlike anything we've seen. This rare variety has a history as colorful as its fruit. Seed was shared with us by Jim Kudek of Waldo, Wisconsin, who acquired his stock about 15 years ago from a nursery in southern Indiana. Although that nursery has since closed, the owner told Jim that the tomato originally came from Louisville, Kentucky. Now, with your help we can continue their tradition of stewardship and ensure that this extremely rare heirloom is preserved for future generations.
