Tar Heel Pole Snap/Green Bean
Tar Heel is an old pole bean, reportedly carried by former residents of North Carolina who had migrated to Washington state in search of work in the timber industry around the turn of the 20th century. Once traded among the Washington locals, the beans became known as Tar Heel beans in honor of their provenance. Vigorous, pole-type plants produce heavy yields of 5 to 6-inch long, flattened pods which bulge under the pressure of the developing seed. Reminiscent of a greasy bean, but without the shiny hull. The flavor is similar as well, with a heartiness that can't be found in modern beans. String-type. 75 days to harvest. 25 seeds per packet.
