Brandywine Black Heirloom Tomato (Weaver's Strain)
Brandywine Black is an heirloom variety of tomato bred in the late 1920's by Dr. Harold Martin, a dentist and hobby tomato breeder living in Westtown, Pennsylvania. Eventually obtained by the grandfather of famed seed collector William Woys Weaver, this unique variety was stewarded by the family until its eventual release in 2008 under the name "True Brandywine Black". Vigorous, potato-leaved plants are excellent producers of large, purplish-black tomatoes reaching up to one pound each. The meaty, beefsteak-type tomatoes are perfect for slicing, with an earthy, sweet flavor. Harvests begin approximately 80 days after transplant. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
