Bloomsdale Longstanding Spinach

250 Seeds

$ 3.69

(Spinacia oleracea) We searched for years to find a genetic source of Bloomsdale Longstanding that had not deteriorated through breeding neglect.  It seemed that every one we tried produced small, thin leaves and bolted at the first sign of stress-- not what you would expect for a variety called "Longstanding."  Finally, we've found one that lives up to the reputation boasted by niche growers of the Pacific Northwest-- large, savoyed, dark green leaves with unbelievable flavor and texture.  Well worth the wait.  40-60 days.  Approx. 250 seeds per packet.

CULTURE:  As soon as soil can be worked, sow seeds 1" apart, 1/2" deep in rows 12-18" apart.  Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 7-14 days.  Thin to one plant every 6-8".  A second sowing can be made in the fall, however it is best to wait until temps have cooled a bit as spinach will not germinate in hot soil.
