North Carolina Long Greasy Bean

25 Seeds

$ 3.99

(Phaseolus vulgaris) Appalachian heirloom greasy bean still famous in the farmers markets of North Carolina.  Plants produce bucket loads of 6" long, shiny hulled beans.  Typically harvested after the pods have begun to fill out, greasy beans give you the best of both worlds, the freshness of a green bean with the heartiness of a dry bean.  Beans do need to be de-strung, but we find it well worth the effort as these beans offer a flavor and substance not available in modern bean varieties.  White seeded.  70 days to harvest.  25 seeds per packet.

CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 4-6" apart, 1" deep in rows 24-36" apart.  Plants require trellising.  Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 7-10 days.  For highest yield, harvest regularly.  Avoid touching plants while leaves are wet as this can spread disease.
