Nigella damascena
An age-old English variety dating back to around 1570, love-in-a-mist produces white, periwinkle, and electric blue flowers atop wispy stems and a "mist" of airy, feather-like foliage. Flowers mature into beautiful seed pods that dry well for flower arrangements. Self-seeds readily. Not edible. All parts of the plant are toxic to humans. Blooms spring to summer. Each packet contains a minimum of 250 seeds.

We're seed savers first—and that attitude goes into everything we do. That's why we only offer varieties that are capable of producing true-to-type seed. What's more, our resealable, mylar-lined packaging can be reused when you're ready to harvest your own seed crop.
Love-in-a-mist prefers a well-draining soil with a neutral pH, and full sun to partial shade. It needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, and regular watering to keep the soil moist.
Sow seed outdoors when a chance of frost is still possible. Sow 1/8" deep in average soil with full sun exposure. Germination will occur in 8-15 days. Thin to one plant every 8-12 inches.
Not recommended
Although generally easy to care for, Love-in-a-mist is susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, and downy mildew. Be sure to give plants ample space to promote airflow and prevent disease.
Love-in-a-mist make excellent cut flowers. They have a unique and delicate appearance, with their small, star-shaped flowers surrounded by a lacy foliage. The flowers are long-lasting and can be used in a variety of arrangements. They also have a pleasant, light scent that adds to their charm.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Harvest Love-in-a-mist seeds when the seed pods turn brown and begin to split. Cut the stems and place the seed heads in a paper bag to dry. Once dry, rub the seed heads to release the seeds.
