Prizehead is a very old heirloom variety introduced commercially in 1881 by D.M. Ferry and W.A. Burpee. Plants produce large, loose heads of chartreuse green leaves with blushed red margins. Wide, wavy leaves add volume to salad mixes and have a pleasant, velvety texture and excellent flavor. Fast-growing plants show excellent heat tolerance and are slow to bolt. Matures approximately 45 to 55 days from sowing. Each packet contains a minimum of 250 seeds.
